Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is a national level exam conducted annually for admission into engineering and architecture colleges across India. The exam constitutes two parts: JEE Main & JEE Advanced. Considered one of the most grueling entrance tests in for undergraduate courses, JEE has over a million aspirants applying each year.
JEE Main consists 2 papers: Paper 1 for B.E./B.Tech courses while Paper 2 is for B.Arch courses. Students who qualify the JEE Main Exam go on to take the JEE Advanced Exam, to gain admission into one of the seven zonal IITs.

JEE Main Eligibility Criteria
In order to apply for the examination, candidates should satisfy all the eligibility conditions that are mentioned below. Candidates who fail to satisfy any of the mentioned norms will be unable to submit their application form.
- Age Limit – It should be either 25 or less than it.
- Educational Qualification – Candidates should have qualified the class 12th examination in 2016 or 2017. Candidates who are appearing in 2018 are also eligible to take the examination. However, candidates who reappeared in 2016 are not eligible for the examination.
- Number of Attempts – Candidates are allowed for 03 attempts only.

JEE Advanced Eligibility Criteria
Criterion 1 – Performance in JEE Main
- The candidate should be among top 2,24,000 (all categories included) in JEE Main. The percentage of the total number of candidates for various categories are as follows:
- 50.5% for GEN (from the common rank list), 27% for OBC-NCL, 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST. Within each of these four categories, 3% horizontal reservation is available for PwD candidates. PwD category includes Dyslexic candidates also.
Criterion 2 – Age Limit
- 24 years if belonging to the GEN or OBC-NCL category and 29 years if belonging to the SC, ST or PwD category
Criterion 3 – Number of Attempts
- A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced a maximum of two times and that too in consecutive years.
Criterion 4 – Appearance in Class XII (or equivalent) examination
- The candidate should have appeared for Class XII (or equivalent) examination for the first time in all the subjects in either the preceding year or the year of JEE Advanced exam.
- Those, who appeared for the first time in their class XII (or equivalent) examination in the year before the preceding year or earlier, are not eligible. However, candidates whose class XII (or equivalent) examination board results for an academic year (3 years prior to the current JEE Advanced exam year), were declared after June of the following year (a year prior to the preceding year of the examination) are eligible to appear for JEE Advanced.
